Update the focal point of an image

Learn how to set an area within an image as the focal point

By default, the focal point of an image you add to a banner or snippet is at the centre of the image. Craft allows you to customise this so that regardless of the device the image is being viewed on, the focus point of your image will not be cut off.

Below are the instructions for Craft 4:

  1. Navigate to the entry and locate the image:

  2. Double click the image then select edit (you will need to hover over the image to reveal the edit button)

  3. Select focal point, then look for the white circle in the centre of the image

  4. After you have adjusted the focal point, click save in the bottom right corner

If you are using an older version of Craft, the instructions below will apply:

Craft 2 instructions

  1. Navigate to the entry and locate the image, then click the cog:

  2. This will open the focal point modal

  3. In the image with the white circle, click the area of the image that you want to make the focal point (the white circle indicating the focal point will move to where you click).

  4. Finally, click 'ok' in the bottom right corner to save the changes.

Craft 3 instructions

  1. Navigate to the entry and locate the image

  2. Double click the image then select edit

3. Select focal point, then look for the white circle in the centre of the image

4. After you have adjusted the focal point, click save in the bottom right corner
